Top 5 New Things to See, Eat + Do in Tofino

With the busyness and indulgence of Christmas behind us, the post-eggnog countdown to 2015 is on. Whether you’re headed to a shindig with streamers or heading to the living room with a bowl of popcorn, New Year’s Eve is a time to reflect on the past year and look forward to the next. As we look back on another memorable year filled with new and returning friends and guests, we’re especially grateful for this incredible part of the world we get to call home.

And while Tofino is known for its tranquility, there’s never a dull moment as our hip little coastal town continues to grow its worldwide fan base as a hot yet humble, year-round destination with an ever changing variety of new things to see, eat and do.

Here are 5 new Tofino highlights to enjoy on your next visit, in no particular order:

1.  Tonquin Trail
Touted as an “easy out-and-back gravel trail,” this spectacular 2.6 km trail meanders through old-growth forests to Tonquin Beach and Third Beach. Take your time on meandering boardwalks and “Swiss Family Robinson” style lookouts spanning breathtaking Clayoquot Sound – a perfect afternoon picnic outing for hikers of all ages.

2.  Wolf in the Fog
This much-anticipated restaurant started making waves in foodie circles right out of the chute including being voted 2014’s #1 Best New Restaurant by enRoute magazine. From share plates called “Block Party” to a rustic meets contemporary design including a driftwood wolf on arrival, it’s a culinary experience that promises to “match the intensity of Tofino’s wild and dramatic environment” – and boy does it deliver.

3.  Picnic Charcuterie
With a passionate focus on showcasing artisan meat producers that practice sustainably and respectfully, this new charcuterie “feeds people that care” with a meat-lovers dream selection of in-house cured, smoked and cooked meats. From Brown Sugar Bacon to Csabai Sausage, it’s a must-stop to stock up on Happy Hour provisions for your suite. We happily feature some of Picnic’s savoury cuts in our Gift Baskets – a great welcoming present or Tofino takeaway?

4.  Tofino Brewing Company
They had us at Tuff Session Ale, and we’ve been sipping and supporting the liquid gold ever since it poured onto the handcrafted beer scene in spring 2011. Fast forward, and the burgeoning brewery has been expanding distribution in bars and beer stores in and around the west coast. Belly up to their cozy new bar at the Industrial Way headquarters next time you’re in town. Or grab a frosty cold growler to go. Read launch blog >>

5.  Kuma
While tonight’s New Year’s event marks the last night for Spotted Bear Bistro, Chef Simon Burch isn’t going anywhere. He will be front and centre when the eatery reopens late January as Kuma – Japanese for ‘bear’. We can’t wait for the Japanese comfort food style menu designed “to warm the soul,” including chicken karaage, tuna tataki, noodle bowls and pork broth ramen.

As for 2015, what if you started the New Year with a Tofino getaway that could set the tone for your best year ever? There’s nothing quite like a beach walk and the roar of winter surf to give you clarity and perspective.

Leave everyday distractions behind and treat yourself to a peaceful escape in January & February with our Pacific Storm Watching Package including savings from 20% to 35%.

Meantime, Happy New Year! Here’s to good times and a great year ahead.
