- West Coast Winter Music Series Presents Silk Road Music and Wen Wei DanceJan 17, 2015 7:30 pmLocation: Clayoquot Sound Theatre
For over twenty years, Silk Road Music has been smashing stereotypes about Chinese music and taking Chinese instruments in new artistic directions. Its pioneering musical fusions have merged Chinese folk and classical music with Brazilian, jazz, Celtic, Spanish, Arabic, Aboriginal and blues music. Founded by Qiu Xia He (pr. Chu-sha Her), a one-time music teacher and touring musician in her native Shaanxi, China, the ensemble has earned a Juno nomination, two West Coast Music Awards and two Canadian Folk Music Award nominations. Most recently, the group has begun exploring sinified flamenco music and performing on-stage with flamenco dancers.
Wen Wei Dance
Wen Wei Dance’s work reflects a multiplicity of dance and social experiences. Each creation is influenced by a natural evolution of personal identity, and strives to reflect the underlying experience of social, cultural and personal development. Wen Wei Dance creates startling and provocative performance works of a distinctive trans-cultural sensibility. With an original and highly individual style, Artistic Director Wen Wei Wang fuses precise and subtle choreography with stunning visual design and music, turning each work into a rich and unique world.
It’s the 15th season for Winter Music in Tofino. The shows are bigger than ever and showcase a wide range of talent, from classical to jazz and roots. All concerts held at the Clayoquot Sound Theatre, starting at 7:30 pm.
