  • 4th Annual Capturing the Coast
    Feb 1, 2018 - Mar 2, 2018

    The Capturing the Coast photo contest celebrates the natural world, the people, and the unknowns of Vancouver Island’s west coast. Photographs entered into the contest should inspire people to explore, adventure, and respect the natural world, and highlight the importance of stewardship and conservation across the region.

    Submission Deadline: February 18, 2018
    **NEW** Silent Auction open January 15 – February 28, 2018

    Prints from prominent photographers will be displayed at select locations around Tofino, and online. The highest bidder for each photo will take home a beautiful framed and signed print!

     Main Event: Friday, March 2, 2018 at the Clayoquot Community Theatre and Shelter Restaurant in Tofino, BC.

    Slideshow viewings:

    3:00pm – Matinee showing at the Clayoquot Community Theatre // $5 at the door, includes a voting ballot and one raffle ticket!

    5:30pm – Clayoquot Community Theatre // $10 at the door, includes a voting ballot and one raffle ticket!

    7:00pm – Clayoquot Community Theatre // $10 at the door, includes a voting ballot and one raffle ticket!

    8:00pm – Shelter Restaurant // No cover, final showing, winners announced and raffle draw!

    Show your support by voting for your favourite slideshow at the 5:30pm and 7:00pm showings at the Clayoquot Community Theatre!

    Winners for the Single Photo contest and the Slideshow contest will be announced later in the evening at Shelter Restaurant.
    Doors open at 8:00pm
    Final showing will take place at 8:30pm. 

    We will also be hosting our annual Fundraiser Raffle at Shelter Restaurant! Enter for a chance to win great prize packs from local Vancouver Island businesses! All proceeds from Capturing the Coast Photo Contest directly support the Raincoast Field School for local youth.

     

  • Ucluelet Aquarium Opening Day 2018!

    The 2018 season is fast approaching and the aquarium staff are getting excited. To celebrate, the first day of the 2018 season, March 1st, admission is FREE for the whole day! Mark your calendars.

     

  • Pacific Rim Whale Festival

    Join the coastal celebration! The festival, now in its 32nd year, honours the annual migration of over 20,000 Gray Whales past our shores. Over the years, the festival has grown to feature events including educational discussions/panels, concerts, Maritime Kids Days, culinary events and more.

    2018 Calendar of Events will be updated shortly, here are a few confirmed events:

    March 10: Whalefest kick off and Parade, Tofino

    March 10: Special Guest Speaker (sponsored by Ocean Outfitters), Tofino
    Join Ian McAllister for an evening of exploration, research and wildlife conservation.  

    March 10 – 23: West Coast Photo Showdown – the 30 top photos will be printed and on display at the Gray Whale Deli, Ucluelet

    March 17: Barnacle Blues (St Patrick’s Day), Black Rock Resort, Ucluelet

    March 18: Chowder Chow Down, Ucluelet Community Centre

    March 18: SeaChange Panel, Global Warming! What does it mean for our oceans?

    March 21: Maritime Kids Day, with special guests BOBS AND LOLO, Tofino

    March 22: Maritime Kids Day, with special guests BOBS AND LOLO, Ucluelet

    March 25: Closing events at Wickaninnish Beach & Kwisitis Centre, Pacific Rim National Park Reserve

     

  • Great Bear Wild: Dispatches from a Northern Rainforest

    Location: Tofino Community Hall

    Join Ian McAllister for an evening of exploration, research, and wildlife conservation, at this Pacific Rim Whale Festival featured event! Ian McAllister is a conservationist, filmmaker, photographer, and writer who has spent the last 30 years working to protect B.C.’s coastal wilderness and wildlife. Ian has written ten books on the Pacific coast and is currently directing a large screen IMAX film on the Great Bear Rainforest. A co-founder and the Executive Director of the non-profit Pacific Wild he is a Fellow of the Royal Canadian Geographic Society and the International League of Conservation Photographers.

    When: March 10, 2018 at 7:30pm

    Where: Tofino Community Hall

    Pricing: $15/person. Children 12 & under by donation ($5 recommended)

    Showcasing the talents of West Coast Artists and Artisans!

    The largest non-juried Annual Art Show on the West Coast, featuring Pacific Rim Art Society members from the West Coast to Alberta. Traditionally coinciding with the Pacific Rim Whale Festival. Vote for your favourite work of art. With so many styles and mediums to choose from it is harder than you think to pick a favourite. All artwork is for sale. Come out and support the arts community!

    March 16 – March 25 / Black Rock Oceanfront Resort, Ucluelet, 11:00am – 7:00pm, daily.
