CALENDAR OF TOFINO EVENTS

- Storm Watching SeasonSeptember 23 - April 30, 2013
Storm watching season extends from October to March. During the storm watching season there are usually multiple storms each month with horizontal rain, swells of up to 20 metres and 90km an hour winds. Storm watching doesn't really require anything of the observer but stillness and wonder. Storm watching is best advantaged from one of our ocean-front rooms where a good book, a fireplace and maybe a blanket across your lap are really all you need to experience the fury and the force of the pounding Pacific Ocean on the other side of your rattling, double paned window. Or for the more adventurous, head out into the storm to experience the power of the wind, to observe the giant waves, and to hear the symphony of the wind and waves.
- Annual Salmon RunOctober 01
Hundreds of Salmon return this time every year to spawn in the small creeks near Long Beach. The Kootowis Staghorn Interpretive Drive offers excellent interpretive signs and drive-to viewing areas perfect for witnessing this impressive migration.
- Mushroom Picking SeasonOctober 01 - November 11
During the fall months in Clayoquot Sound mushrooms grow in abundance in our local rainforests. Mushrooms are an essential part of the forest ecosystem. They provide food for animals and even help plants grow. Mushroom picking can be a great pastime while visiting the coast but pickers are encouraged to have knowledge of safe fungi for consumption, tread carefully, leave over-mature mushrooms behind and not pick in rare ecosystems and forest reserves.
