Next weekend, competitors in the Canadian Surf Championships will be ripping it up for $25,000 in cash and prizes, right here in Cox Bay at the 2014 Rip Curl Pro Tofino. Are you staying with us over the May 31st weekend? Get ready for front-row seats to Canada’s best wave-riders, steps from your beachfront suite.
As Canada’s surf capital, Tofino is a hot stop on Rip Curl’s surf circuit followed by events in California, Oahu, Florida, North Carolina and Australia.
If you’ve never seen a live surf event, this is as good as it gets as professional and amateur hopefuls compete in heats, vying for their moment on the perfect wave. It’s a dance of anticipation, vision and timing as surfers stand-up and make it happen when it counts. Here’s the complete schedule of events.
But the action is not only out on the ocean, it’s on the beach with music, commentary, frisbees, fun… basically a surf soiree where the dress code is shorts, flip-flops and wetsuits. And you’re invited!
Wait are you a surfer? Throw your board in the ring. Yes, pros including Tofino local Peter Devries and California’s Sarah Taylor will be back to defend their titles, but if you’re an amateur looking for your moment in the sun, now is the time. There’s still space available in some categories including girls, boys, pro/amateur women and longboard for both men and women. Register now and show your stuff!
