If 2020 taught us anything, it’s how important it is to make self-care a priority; ensuring our physical and mental health comes first. And so, as we breathe our way into the promise of 2021, we’re bringing back our yoga instructor, Heidi MacPherson, for another virtual class.
Heidi received such a warm reception during our first virtual yoga class last spring, we thought it was time to take a New Year’s mind/body pause to the sound of her soothing voice—a voice so peaceful and grounding, we’re surprised the Calm app hasn’t snapped her up!
While Heidi’s teachings at Tofino’s Coastal Bliss Yoga—and complimentary guest summer yoga here at Pacific Sands—are typically Vinyasa, Hatha and Yin focussed, this class is Yoga Nidra, or “yogic sleep” as it is commonly known. Guided by meditation, Yoga Nidra is a state of consciousness between waking and sleeping, like the “going-to-sleep” stage.

Anyone can do it, and you simply can’t do it wrong
Yoga Nidra is all about resting comfortably on your back (like an extended, heavenly savasana) while breathing and listening. You can certainly do this practice seated, however a yoga mat on the floor is ideal for anyone, anytime, at any age.
Effortless stress relief
This style of yoga incorporates stages of body scans, relaxing your nervous system and regenerating and repairing cells. As you let go and float into the practice, you can feel stress and anxiety melting away; replaced with a gentle mood-lift and sense of well-being.

If you like, Yoga Nidra is an easy practise to do in bed at night as part of your evening routine. Add headphones, cozy covers, and sweet dreams as you drift off into deep, rejuvenating sleep.
