Chicks Rule @ Queen of the Peak Surf Competition

It’s all about big waves and girl power this week with the kick-off of the 2nd annual Queen of the Peak women’s surf competition.  Presented by Surf Sister and Shelter Restaurant, the short and longboard competitions are set for Oct 15 & 16.

With $1,500 cash and a spanky new surfboard up for grabs, it’s a celebration of Tofino’s unique women’s surf culture including fun festivities for competitors and surf fans all week long.

Oct 10 – The Boogie Bash – North Chesterman Beach

Co-ed, open boogey board contest with cash prizes and a chance to win a classic lemon yellow 1972 Volkswagen Squareback.  A random draw will be held Sunday night at the Awards Ceremony at Shelter (it may be "lemon" coloured, but yes it runs).  Check out these cool wheels on the Queen of the Peak Facebook page.

Oct 12 – Spa Night & Jewelry Show – Ancient Cedars Spa at Wickaninnish Inn

Complimentary mini-mani/pedis start at 6pm with a jewelry show and sale by local artists.

Oct 12 – Movie Premiere of Day and Age – Shelter Restaurant

At 9pm, grab a seat for the Tofino unveiling of the radical new snowboarding movie by Sandbox Helmets followed by trivia and prizes.

Oct 14 – Wine & Cheese – Surf Sister

The night before the competition from 7-9pm, competitors gather at Surf Sister headquarters to pick up their contest packages and get briefed on rules and heat times.

Oct 15 & 16 – Competition – Cox Bay or North Chesterman Beach (tba)

Shortboards hit the surf Saturday; longboards on Sunday with beach set up including a massage tent and babysitting services for competitors.

Oct 16 – Awards Ceremony – Shelter Restaurant

Queen of the Peak winners will be crowned starting at 7pm; wrap-up at 10pm with draw for the car.

If you’re staying with us this weekend you’re in for a real treat.  Depending on wave conditions, the competition will either be steps from your beachfront Tofino accommodations in Cox Bay or one beach over on North Chesterman.

PS:  If you’re surf-ready, there are still a few spots left but get on it quick and pre-register by calling Krissy from Surf Sister at 1.877.724.SURF.  Word is that last year’s Queen of the Peak winner Leah Oke of Sooke BC is unable to attend so it’s wide open and yours to win!
