Being green comes naturally here

Each and every day, we can’t help but be inspired by the beauty of our area, the wildlife, and the habitat we get to live in. And as a pioneering property in the community since the 70s, we’re committed to sustainable practices that preserve the eco-balance of this incredible destination and the resources we use.

Add in the fact that Clayoquot Sound was designated a UNESCO Biosphere Reserve by the United Nations in 2000, and sustainability of our precious ecosystem is beyond best practices—it’s a mandate.

Environmental standards/ratings programs we are a part of:

TripAdvisor GreenLeaders Program Gold Level

Surfrider Pacific Rim

With a mission to “protect and enjoy the world’s ocean, waves and beaches, for all people,” we proudly support the Surfrider Pacific Rim‘s campaigns and programs, including:

Hold On To Your Butt
This campaign aims to raise awareness about the environmental impact of cigarette butt litter in the oceans, waves and beaches, as well as lower the amount of pollution occurring through a cigarette butt recycling program in Tofino, Ucluelet and beyond.
>> Pacific Sands has installed Surfrider cigarette recycling canisters throughout the Resort.

Love Your Beach Clean
This program focusses on analyzing the debris we find on local beaches, not only to get a sense of which items are the biggest offenders, but to amass compelling evidence to advocate for systems change.
>> Pacific Sands participates in Surfrider’s organized, community clean-up events.

Coastal Restoration Society

Coastal Restoration Society supports resource management and environmental stewardship goals of First Nations, Provincial and Federal Governments.

Services include marine-industrial project development and implementation, scientific monitoring and assessment, aquatic invasive specie management and control, and climate change mitigation in the marine environment.

>> Pacific Sands periodically helps with Clayoquot Sound clean-up efforts, including gathering debris from docks, float homes, and derelict boats. (Note: This image depicts a day’s work by volunteer Resort staff. The bags were later airlifted out by Atleo Air. What a team!)
