Dual Tofino Surf and SUP events – Oct 2 to 4

Staying with us early October? Whether you surf, stand up paddle board, or simply enjoy awesome beachfront viewing, you’re in for a treat with two boarding events October 2 to 4.

October is the official start of Tofino’s Surf Season, and we’re coming hot out of the gates with Queen of the Peak Women’s Surf Championships Oct 2 to 4, when the best women surfers around pull on wetsuits and paddle out into the Pacific to show their stuff in 3 competitive categories:

Along with the title sponsor/wave aficionados at Billabong and numerous other local businesses, Pacific Sands is an excited sponsor of this annual event, which was co-created by our onsite Surf Shack instructors from Surf Sister Surf School.

Get ready for 3-days of surf action, girl power, and a celebration of Tofino’s unique surf culture as top talent vie for coveted cash and prizes. From free childcare, dog-sitting, and massage services for competitors, it’s as “female-friendly” as it gets.

And depending on wave conditions, the events will be held either right here in Cox Bay, or a couple of bays over on North Chesterman.

Which means either way, you’re steps from the fun.

Tofino’s own Hanna Scott ruled Queen of the Peak last year, taking 1st place in Short Board and 2nd in Long Board. That’s her in the picture above, and you can watch her defend her Queen-size board status again this year.

Speaking of boards, stand up paddle boarding (SUP) is sharing the spotlight that same weekend with the 1st Annual West Coast SUP Symposium – a weekend of SUP surfing, touring and new skills thanks to Paddle Canada’s skill and maintenance clinics.

At just $75 for online pre-registration, you’re good-to-go for all clinics with equipment rental options if you don’t have your own.

More info here, including a detailed schedule of what’s looking like a jam-packed weekend for SUP fans!
