Aphrodisiac Alert – November is Oyster Month in Tofino
With over 50,000 gallons of Pacific oysters harvested in the region annually, Tofino has plenty to shuck and slurp about having declared November the official month to celebrate these abundantly yummy bivalves.
Described as the “purest, most unadulterated taste of the sea” oysters will take centre stage all month long at local restaurants including Sobo, Shelter, and The Pointe Restaurant at Wickaninnish Inn not to mention the Clayoquot Oyster Festival November 19 -21.
The 14th annual festival is an indulgent culinary adventure for new to foodie fans with an oyster shucking contest, oyster & wine tastings, oyster farm tours, the Mermaid’s Ball costume party and the grand finale Oyster Gala showcasing oyster-inspired creations from local restaurants, live music and dancing.
There are still some festival tickets left but it sells out every year so book yours soon – for more info visit the event website or call 1.800.863.4664.
From raw on the half-shell to beautifully baked, be prepared for seriously sumptious oyster consumption throughout November in Tofino. Good news is that besides being packed full of omega-rich slippery goodness, oysters are a guilt-free indulgence with almost zero fat.
Now, about that suggestion that oysters are aphrodisiacs… hmmm… did we mention our Pacific Romance Package? (wink)
